Okay,
I know I'm not too on top of this blog. . . .it's not like I don't do my part for the small corner of the webosphere I inhabit. Nevertheless, the few of you who keep up with this blog might want to know what it goin' on.
Summer is busy and weird. You can find out more in this and last weeks' episodes of the Gastrocast.
I am once again on the ferry heading to the mainland. It is a foggy summer morning, which is welcome as it has been so hot here. Things seem to be cooling off and this fog is the harbinger of an early pattern to the August deep morning fogs, scorching hot afternoons when the fog burns off after lunch and crisp, beachy evenings. The summer has flown by until now. I just wish it would slow down, but things seem to be keeping apace.
This is the third trip to town in as many weeks. Normally I don't like to go in but twice a month--it saves on fuel, money and sanity. However, jobs and family obligations have kept me on the move. Today I am on a supply run--food for 200. The next few days will be very busy as I cram 40 hours of work into three days. I don't work often, but when I do, I work hard. If I had this schedule every week I'd be rolling in it.
Next week proves to be a bit more relaxed and sane as I am only cooking for one family--a greek kabob birthday party. I say this now, knowing my life is stranger than fiction and that anything can happen. This morning on the way to the ferry I had to wrangle calf and sheep to get back in their field space. No big deal, but frisking with a 500lb steer-boyo in the AM in my town duds was not my idea of fun. . .at least before I had some coffee. At least he can get to his water now, and I made the ferry.
When not cooking or romping with livestock or corralling chickens I have been pushing forward my Bokashi adgenda. I've sold two buckets to date. Oh, and a whole bunch of cookbooks, which is great. I only profit $6 a pop, but every bit helps and an extra $120 is always welcome. That's what comes from being a self-promoting so-and-so and getting out there. The last picnic I cooked for and sent North garnered praise and cookbook sales. It's all tied together.
Speaking of getting my face out there. . . It looks like I'll be doing a cooking demonstration at the County Fair in a few weeks. All of this fell like manna yesterday as I was busily planning this town trip and my recipes and shopping lists for this weekends cooking. Not quite sure what I'll be cooking, but it will be featuring locally produced products and goods. I am thinking of an all-island Paella. . . .Something for everyone, from as many producers as possible.

Now it's time for me to shift my arse. I have a food safety test to take to keep on top of things, and I have to go spend a lot of cash in a short amount of time. Updates as available
Yesterday, it was revealed that this terrorist document, recovered from the archives of an anarchist cell, plots the overthrow of tyrannical governments. Beware and do not associate yourself with these conspirators if you are a Citizen of American Republican Pride (CRAP).
